Here is a birthday blessings prayer for your preschooler that features Scriptures to pray and claim for them on their special day.  There’s no better birthday gift than the gift of prayer!

Preschooler Birthday Blessings Prayer Using and Claiming the Scriptures

Dear Father, we thank you for this precious child.  On their birthday we pray your blessings on them from the Scriptures.

We pray the verse from the Bible that describes how Jesus grew, “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.” (Luke 3:52 NIV)

We pray that like your Son Jesus that this child will grow in wisdom.  May they retain their wide-eyed ability to respond wholeheartedly to love and to delight with surprise and joy in the smallest marvels of creation.   May they continually grow in the wisdom of how to show love and how to respect and respond with empathy to the feelings of others.   Teach them the difference between right and wrong.  Help them to develop appropriate knowledge about which impulses are good to follow and which ones can lead to harm.  And when they lack the maturity and wisdom to know the difference, we pray that  their guardian angel will protect them when they unknowingly walk into danger.

We pray that like Jesus that this child will grow in stature.  Keep them healthy.  Calm their fears when they undergo medical care and enable them to cooperate when they need to take medicine.  Help them develop good sleep and eating habits.  Give them a love for outdoor games and sports and riding bikes and active play.

We pray that like Jesus this child will grow in favor with God.  May they sing “Jesus Loves Me” and hear Bible stories and pray bedtime prayers. Give them the opportunity to enjoy Sunday school and Bible school and children’s choir. May they accept as much of God as they can understand at every stage of their life.   May they learn early how to live by the Golden Rule that says, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”  (Luke 6:31 NIV)   Let them never be afraid that You are too busy for them when they hear the story about how Jesus took time out of his ministry to bless children by saying, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as the.  I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”  (Luke 18:16,17 NIV)

We also pray that like Jesus this child will grow in the favor of others.  May all respond to this child with kindness, patience and compassion.  May they have good preschool teachers and caregivers who are truly called to their vocations.  May others value this child not because they are perfect or funny or cute or well behaved but because they are a child of Yours, precious in Your sight.

We also pray the Scripture that tells how John the Baptist grew during childhood.  We pray this blessing upon this child, “And the child grew and became strong in spirit;”  (Luke 1:80)

We thank you for the unique personality and spirit that you have created in this child.  May this child grow strong and confident in who You created them to be so they might later discover what You will call them to do in their lives.  May they learn the strength of trying again when they fail.  And give them a teachable spirit to ask for help when they need it.   Thank that their strong childish will is part of how you created them.  Give us the wisdom to enable them to channel their strong will and independence in positive ways that’s not about always getting their way but instead about finding Your help to stick with good things when they feel like giving up.  Help their tender, trusting spirits never be wounded or exploited by harmful outside influences.   Help us to accept their times of meekness and shyness and embrace it as a blessing from the Bible when Jesus said, “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”  (Matthew 5:5 NIV)

May your favor rest on this child on their birthday and throughout all of the days of their life as they grow in wisdom, stature, favor and spirit.  Amen.
