End of Summer Blues Prayer
This End of Summer Blues Prayer is the perfect way to make a good transition from the carefree days of summer to the structure and routine of fall.
End of Summer Blues Prayer
Oh, Lord, summer is ending and I’m sad. The carefree days of fun and relaxation will soon be replaced by schedules and routine. How I’ll miss the freedom! Forgive me, God, for whining. I’m so grateful for this beautiful summer and the sweet memories I’ll always cherish. Create in me anticipation for the coming fall, a season of renewal and hope. And remind me, in case I forget, that summer will come again.
Amen
About this Prayer
Can summer be over already? It’s question on the lips of every teacher, student, parent and grandparent. Wasn’t Memorial Day just yesterday?
My family adores summer. We gathered at a huge beach house, soaking up the sun and surf, catching up on each other’s lives. We enjoyed parties for summer birthdays, swam, barbecued, popped firecrackers. Despite a lingering sadness about summer’s end, these are memories I will cherish with a smile.
Ready or not, it’s time to pack up the sandals, shorts and sunscreen and get back to work and school. Two of my daughters are educators, busily preparing their classrooms. My five grandchildren, four in elementary school and one in high school, are facing the school year with a mixture of excitement and trepidation. “What if a get a mean teacher?” And “How will I ever pass calculus?”
My husband and I will miss the frequent visits with grandkids. We’ll miss staying up later and sleeping in. Mostly we’ll miss the laid-back aura of summer. But we’ll adjust. Fall is just around the corner, bringing football, bonfires, Halloween and Thanksgiving. And more family time! There’s always plenty to look forward to in God’s beautiful world.
Tips for Readjusting to Life at Summer’s End
Getting back into the groove after summer vacation can be challenging. Here are some ideas for making that transition as painless as possible.
First, lovingly but firmly, pack up summer gear and adjust your mind to embracing the coming season.
Start early to set up a new sleep schedule, going to bed earlier and getting up at the same time every day.
Plan a few fun activities for fall.
Re-connect with friends.
Turn up the AC, get under cozy blankets and have a group snuggle.
Look at summer photos and write about those precious times.
Go for a walk and look for signs of the changing season.
Finally, it’s never too soon to dream about and plan for next summer!
