Description

Published by Multnomah

This small volume became an international best seller because it encourages us to pray with confidence for God’s help and blessing. The book is based on a prayer in the Bible from I Chronicles 4:10 where Jabez, an otherwise unknown descendant of Judah, prays, “Oh, that you would bless me indeed and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain.” The Bible reports: “So God granted him what he requested.”

The author himself has prayed this prayer every day for 30 years and explains how it has made all of the difference in following his calling. He breaks the prayer down into four requests that he explores with the readers – bless me, enlarge my territory, God’s hand would be with us and that he would keep us from evil.
There are study guides available for groups.

Review

I read this book long after it was extremely popular. I personally benefited from the idea of asking God to bless me personally and “enlarge my territory.” I heard other friends express to me that this was a new thought to them to be able to actually pray to be blessed and for their work and ministry to grow. I think this book shows that Biblical prayers can bring much power into our lives and can reassure us that God listens and answers.
