Description
St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Asheville, NC, established in 1914, is a brick Gothic style church set in on a charming wooded lot in a residential section. Inside the most striking feature of the chapel is a stylized painting of Mary over the altar area. The church also features the stations of the cross along the walls of the church and various niches with statues of saints. St. Mary’s is listed on the National Registers of Historic Places.

capture-asheville-st-mary-1How I used this place of prayer
We happened upon this church while driving around looking at vintage homes in Asheville. We stopped because of a large sign out front that said, “The Church is open. Come in to rest and pray.” It was a freezing cold December day, not suited for taking a walk around the interesting neighborhood streets, so we welcomed the invitation to find shelter from the wind in the sanctuary for a moment of quiet time enjoying the sanctuary with light coming in through the blue opaque diamond pain windows and the painting of Mary illuminated up front on the altar. I would like to go back in warmer weather to enjoy a moment in court yard.
