How do you pray for countries you hear about on the news that are undergoing civil unrest, government problems, revolution or war?  Here is a prayer that can be prayed individually or in used in group prayer  for countries and areas of the world where peace is needed.  It can also be used as a responsive prayer in a church or in a group, with the leader reading the normal print and the group responding by reading the bold print.

Prayer for Peace in Countries Undergoing Civil Unrest, Revolution or War

Romania 11 360Dear Ruler of the Universe,  Our hearts and prayers go out to those in countries where there is civil unrest, government problems, revolution or war.  We thank you that you are the God of history who has actively sought men and women after your own heart in all nations.

We pray the following Scriptures over _____________________.  (specific country or region)

“The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.  The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.” (Psalm 145:8,9 NIV)

We pray your grace, compassion and love to all in ______________________ who are in need of comfort, encouragement and hope.  May they feel the effects of our prayer and may your love be shown them by caring people of mercy –  by good neighbors, religious leaders, aid workers, medical workers and civil servants.

“Blessed are they who maintain justice, who constantly do what is right.” (Psalm 106 3 NIV)

We pray for justice.  We pray that you will raise up leaders who will do right and who will be vigilant against the abuse of power.  Bring forward leaders who will not exploit the people, will not suppress minorities and religious freedom, will not misuse military power and will not pollute the environment.

“God is our refuge and strength, an every-present help in trouble.”  (Psalm 46:1 NIV)

We pray that you will create places of refuge for those affected by this time of unrest.  Be with those who are forced to flee their homes for safety.  Provide for their needs.  Care for the children, ill and elderly.  Watch over them and protect them as they travel.  Provide temporary places of refuge that are safe, clean and well supplied.  And prevent factions and military forces from interfering with aid arriving to those in need.

“Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.”  (Psalm 119:165 NIV)

May your law become the basis for social and government law so that this area might become a place of prosperity and peace.

“Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Psalm 31:6 NIV)

Please go with those who are on the front lines of positive change during this time of unrest.  May they be strong and courageous and may they know that you have called them and that you are with them.  Help them fear not and to trust in you.

“In my anguish I cried to the Lord, and he answered by setting me free.”  (Psalm 118:5 NIV)

May you establish freedom in this part of the world in answer to the prayers of the oppressed and the prayers of those who are praying worldwide.

Romania 11 316“He will wipe every tear from their eyes.  There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”  (Revelation 21:4)

We pray for those in this area who have lost loved ones during this time of unrest.  May the lives that have been sacrificed be always remembered and honored.  Be with those who are mourning the death of family, friends and neighbors.  Comfort and sustain them with your loving presence and your promises of eternal life.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.”  (Matthew 5:9 NIV)

We pray for peacemakers and peacekeepers.  We pray for all of the surrounding countries and world leaders that they might be guided to actions that will help alleviate the troubles and sufferings of the people in this area of the world.   We pray for the churches and religious leaders that they might do your will and continue to stand fast to the moral compass of your Word in face of opposition and persecution.

“Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”  (Matthew 6:10 KJV)

May you become the ruler of all hearts here on earth in order for our earth to become your kingdom where we live together as brothers and sisters in love, peace, prosperity and submission to your will.  We pray in the strong name of our Lord and our God.  Amen.
