When we depart from someone we care about, it’s comforting to say a prayer of blessing.  The words of the hymn by J.E. Rankin entitled “God be with you till we meet again” make a good way to express our desires that God will protect and care for our loved ones while they are absent from us.  When I was growing up, our choir sang the first verse of this song at the end of each worship service.  Here is a copy of the words to this hymn to use as a prayer of farewell.

“God Be with You”

by J.E. Rankin

God be with you till we meet again;

By His counsels guide, uphold you:

With His sheep securely fold you.

God be with you till we meet again.

God be with you till we meet again;

‘Neath His wings protecting hide you;

Daily manna still provide you.

God be with you till we meet again.

God be with you till we meet again;

When life’s perils thick confound you.

Put His arms unfailing round you.

God be with you till we meet again.

God be with you till we meet again;

Keep love’s banner floating o’er you;

Smite death’s threat’ning wave before you.

God be with you till we meet again.
