A personal safety prayer is a great way to receive God’s protection no matter where you are are what you are doing.  Safety is one of those things that we take for granted until we find ourselves in danger.  Here is a prayer for you with Bible verses when you saying a personal safety prayer or a protection prayer.

Personal Safety Prayer and Protection Prayer Using Bible Verses

Dear God, I thank you that your unseen presence and power are always at work keeping me safe from danger.   I don’t always notice the gift of safety when I make it safely through another day or safely to my destination when traveling.  Forgive me for not thanking you when I lie down to sleep in peace and security after another normal day.

My current situation has reminded me that safety is not guaranteed in anything I do in life.  I now name the specific activity I am about to do or something that is making me feel unsafe or fearful.  Pray your divine safety for _______________________________________________________

I claim your promises from the Bible that you are able to keep me safe:

“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.”  (Psalm 4:8 NIV)

“Keep me safe, my God, for in you I take refuge.”  (Psalm 16:1 NIV)

“For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.”    (Psalm 27:5 NIV)

“The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” (Proverbs 18:10 NIV)

“You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.”  (Psalm 32:11 NIV)

I pray that you will keep me safe from those dangers and unexpected circumstances that I am not aware of.  I thank you that you say in the Bible, “The Lord protects the unwary; when I was brought low, he saved me.”  (Psalm 116:6 NIV)

I pray that you will make me more aware of dangers and safety issues so I can be on guard.  Fill my mind with caution when I am about to do things where risk is involved.  I claim the scripture where you say, “Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.”  (Proverbs 2:11 NIV)  I now name before you a known hazard or danger inherent in something I am doing or will be doing soon______________________________

Prepare me with knowledge, guidance, wisdom, caution, understanding and foresight.  Here is a source you are directing me to where I can find out how to stay safe in my situation ___________________________

I pray that you will send your angels, both heavenly and in human form to step in during the moments when my safety is in jeopardy.  I now claim your promise in the Bible, “If you say, ‘The Lord is my refuge,’ and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.  For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”  (Psalm 91:9-12 NIV)

If a situation unfolds where I am in danger that cannot be avoided, I pray that you shield me and lessen any harm or impacts.  Afterwards, make me aware of how much worse it could have been without your protecting power.

If an accident does happen, I acknowledge the fact that life and the Christian faith are not without risks.  May I know that even in these situations, you are at work.  I meditate on the life of the Apostle Paul who tells in Corinthians chapters 11 and 12 in the Bible how he was constantly in danger in his ministry and often the victim of arrests, beatings and even shipwrecks.  He received a direct answer from God that God’s power was more apparent when we are weak.  Paul says, “That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties.  For when I am weak, then I am strong.”  (2 Corinthians 12:10 NIV)

So now Dear God, make me strong in my weakness, confident in an unsafe world, thankful of your unseen protection in uneventful hours and days, attentive to your voice in times of danger and trusting when accidents happen that you will be my strength.  Amen.

About this prayer

Every time our family gets in the car to go on a road trip we pause and say a very short “Lord, help us have a safe trip“ prayer.   At beginning of our trip we’re always aware of our need for God’s protection, but once we get to our destination we don’t very often pause and thank God for getting us there safely.

Safety is one of those hidden miracles that we don’t think about when things go well for us.  It’s not  until we have a close call or something happens to us that we realize what a blessing from God our safety is.
